Guidebook authors and kayak guides

Call us crazy, but we've always thought work should be fun! So early on we combined the things we love doing together--writing, hiking, paddling and photography. Nearly 20 years later, we have eight books, and have formed our own outfitting business to take people to our favorite places!

Burnham Guides started out leading kayak expeditions in the Florida Keys and Everglades from the pages of our Florida Keys Paddling Atlas. We've now expanded into all seasons: Paddling and hiking trips in Virginia during Summer and Fall, eco-adventures in Costa Rica and paddling through Portugal in the shoulder seasons. Scroll down for details, and look for us on Facebook!

Spring through Fall finds us at our "basecamp" in Onancock on Virginia's beautiful Eastern Shore. The 1680 Colonial port is the perfect launch for kayak camping trips on the Chesapeake Bay and inn-based trips along the 70-mile Seaside Water Trail, the longest undeveloped barrier islands left on the East Coast.
